PURPOSE: To prevent bacterial wilt of a plant of the family Solanaceae by applying an effective amount of a composition containing a specific azidized compound to soil, planting a seedling of a solanaceous plant and growing the plant. CONSTITUTION: A plant of the family Solanaceae is grown on soil scattered with an effective amount of a composition containing an azidized compound capable of generating hydrogen azide by decomposition. The amount of the azidized compound to be scattered to the soil is preferably =1kg/10 are. The product of A (amount of the scattered azidized compound; kg/10 a) and B (treating period; days) (AB) is especially preferably 10-300. The solanaceous plant suitable for the treatment is eggplant, tomato and green pepper. The soil treating agent for controlling bacterial wilt is preferably particles composed of 30-99 pts.wt. of solid powder, 1-40 pts.wt. of the azidized compound and 0.1-30 pts.wt. of a water-soluble binder based on 100 pts.wt. of the composition. The average diameter of the particle is preferably 100-2,000m.
