PURPOSE:To efficiently remove oil from a main tank by feeding purification degreasing liquid to the main tank of a degreasing tank at the time for stopping treating operation of the degreasing tank and discharging the floated and deposited oil from the discharge part of the upper layer of the main tank and thereafter restoring degreasing treatment operation. CONSTITUTION:Degreasing is performed by immersing a material A to be coated in degreasing liquid L contained in the main tank 2 of a degreasing tank and agitating the degreasing liquid L. At the same time, the degreasing liquid L is overflowed together wit floated oil from an upper-layer discharge part 3 consisting of a weir and discharged from the main tank 2 and led to an oil separation tank 7. This purified degreasing liquid L separated from oil therein is returned to the main tank 2 and circulation of degreasing liquid is performed. In the above-mentioned method for operating the degreasing tank, when degreasing treatment operation is stopped at night, the purified degreasing liquid L is fed to the main tank 2 from a storage tank 16 thereof and the oil floated and deposited during stopping agitation is discharged from the upper-layer discharge part 3 and recovered in the oil separation tank 7. Thereafter agitation of degreasing liquid in the main tank 2 is started and degreasing treatment operation is restarted.
