PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To trace a mobile user and to decide its position by delivering ATM cells sequentially in an ATM network where plural mobile base stations are used for nodes and high speed radio communication is conducted among the nodes. SOLUTION: This invention is related to the signaling and the control architecture to set up connection between mobile users in a radio ATM LAN. The ATM LAN includes plural mobile base stations coupled with each other as switching nodes 22 and high speed (e.g. Gb/s) communication is attained among the nodes. The nodes are arranged according to an optional topology to form an ad-hoc network 20. The mobility management technology traces the sign-on an idle hand-off of a mobile body and decides a position of the mobile body during connection setup. Moreover, the connection control procedure is included for setup and opening of the connection of on-demand.
