PURPOSE:To eliminate contamination of a sheet with an ink ribbon by disposing the ribbon at a position out of the center line of a print head in a state that the end of the head is collided with a platen through the sheet. CONSTITUTION:A platen 30 is fixedly mounted at a frame. A spring 25 operates a force for rotating clockwise to a ribbon cassette 26, and a spring 28 operates a force for rotating counterclockwise to the cassette 26. When a shaft 23 is moved rightward, a carrier 20 is rotated clockwise. When the carrier 20 rotates clockwise, a pin 24a presses the cassette 26, and the cassette 26 is rotated clockwise at a fulcrum C as an axis. When the cassette 26 is rotated clockwise at the fulcrum C as an axis, the ribbon 26a is removed from the center line of a print head 9. When the shaft 23 is moved further rightward in a state that the head 9 is collided with the platen 30 through a sheet 32, a shielding plate 24 is introduced into a sensor 6, which outputs a high level signal.
