PURPOSE: To provide a new method for producing ethanol from carbon dioxide by which the carbon dioxide can be converted into the ethanol and a catalyst used therefor. ;CONSTITUTION: The characteristic of this method for producing ethanol from carbon dioxide comprises using a catalyst, containing rhodium, lithium and iron as catalyst metallic components and the rhodium present in the form of metallic rhodium and catalytically hydrogenating the carbon dioxide under pressurizing and heating conditions. Furthermore, this catalyst for producing the ethanol by catalytically hydrogenating the carbon dioxide contains the rhodium, lithium and iron as the catalyst metallic components and the rhodium being present in the form of the metallic rhodium.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1996,JPO
