PURPOSE:To provide a rush-grading means which is equipped with nipping means capable of freely switching from a rush-nipping state into a rush-releasing state and further with a color type photographing means and which can grade and judge the qualities of the rush, such as the color irregularity, breakage, etc., of the rush in a high operation efficiency. CONSTITUTION:In a rush-grading device equipped with a transfer means 2 having nipping means 16 capable of switching from a rush-nipping state into a rush-releasing state and with a control means for controlling the nipping means 16 so that the nipping means 16 may nip the other ends of rushes placed in parallel at a prescribed position on one side of the transfer means 2 and may release the rushes at a prescribed position on the downstream side of the transfer means 2, a color type photographing means 27 is installed at an intermediate position between the nipping position and the releasing position, and a judging means for judging the qualities of the rushes on the basis of the information of the photographing means 27 is also installed. The rush- releasing positions of the nipping means 16 are changed by the control of the control means on the basis of the information of the judging means, thereby permitting to efficiently perform the work for grading the rushes.
