PURPOSE: To clearly reproduce a sound of a low level by applying distortion to a sample value with a high level to work a tone color and sending a sample value with a low level as it is. CONSTITUTION: Signals from a gitter 12 are successively converted into digital signals by an A/D converter 14 and the analog signals are supplied to a distortion generating circuit 16. When the value of an input signal is smaller than the set value of a setter 22, the circuit 16 sends an output signal proportional to the value of the input signal. When the input signal exceeds the set value, the signal is clipped to a value proportional to the set value and turned to a signal including much harmonic. A tone color working device 18 receives the signal from the circuit 16, finds out a difference between the current input signal and the preceding output signal, and when the difference is small, sends the input signal as it is. When the difference is large, the device 18 adds/ subtracts a previously determined value to the preceding output signal and sends the added value to a D/A converter 20. An output signal from the converter 20 is supplied to a speaker.
