PURPOSE: To shorten a long longitudinal arrangement of working heavy vehicles and reduce operators when burying small diameter pipes by the open shield method. ;CONSTITUTION: An excavating machine 6 is arranged, straddling an open shielding machine 1, toward the traveling direction (a) of the open shielding machine 1 to excavate the inside of the open shielding machine toward the traveling direction. The excavated soil is filled back as earth to be refilled while turning around without use of heavy vehicles for back filling. The thrusting jacks 4 of the open shielding machine 1 are driven by the operators of excavating machines 6 through the power units of the excavating machines 6 without any exclusive operators.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1995,JPO
