This method of applying and fixing metals, in particular rhodium, metal platinum and metal palladium on a ceramic carrier, mainly of a honeycomb type, for catalytic converters of burnt gases of combustion engines, is based on the fact that the complex compound of rhodium chloropentamine chloride (RhCl(NH3)5)Cl2, and/or platinum hexamine chloride (Pt(NH3)6)Cl4 and/or palladium tetramine chloride (Pd(NH3)4)Cl2 applied on a ceramic carrier is exposed to temperatures above 300 degrees C in an atmosphere of an gas inert to these metals, preferably in nitrogen or in compressed air, with the depositing of rhodium and/or palladium and/or platinum. The compound of rhodium chloropentamine chloride (RhCl(NH3)5)Cl2, and/or platinum hexamine chloride (Pt(NH3)6)Cl4, and/or palladium tetramine chloride (Pd(NH3)4)Cl2 is created by applying a layer of the compounds of rhodium(III) chloride and/or palladium(II) chloride and/or hexachloroplatinic acid together or separately and by precipitation with ammonia gas carried out between each application of the respective layer. The layer of the compound rhodium chloropentamine chloride (RhCl(NH3)5)Cl2 and/or platinum hexamine chloride (Pt(NH3)6)Cl4 and/or palladium tetramine chloride (Pd(NH3)4)Cl2 can be created by dipping the carrier into the solution or a suspension prepared from rhodium(III) chloride and/or palladium(II) chloride and/or hexachloroplatinic acid and the ammonia solution.
