The oil is applied by one or more independently operating oil and air spraying units (26, 27). The unit is moved along the surface (5) of the lane. At any instant, only one of the sprayers is activated. This ensures that the quantity of oil supplied per unit length of lane can be controlled by the speed with which the system is moved along the lane. The system has an electro-mechanical drive system, an oil reservoir (28), an air compressor (18) and a Programmable Logic Controller (9). The system is equipped with two extra wheels to facilitate the placing and removing of the system from the lane.
