COUNTERING THE ADVERSE EFFECTS OF AGING ON MAMMALIAN CELLS USING 6-(SUBSTITUTED AMINO) PURINE CYTOKININS

摘要

Ameliorating the adverse effects of ageing on mammalian cells comprises; contacting the cells with a compsn. that contains a 6-(substd. amino) purine cytokinin in a concn. sufficient to ameliorate the adverse effects of ageing. The rate of development of characteristics of ageing is reversed or slowed, and the growth rate and total proliferative capacity of the cells, after contact with the compsn., is the same as prior to contact. Pref. the cytokinin is of formula (I). In (I) R1 = furfuryl, phenyl, benzyl, 4-6C n-alkyl, cyclohexylmethyl, (3-hydroxymethyl-3-methyl)allyl or 3,3-dimethylallyl. (I) is most esp. furfuryladenine (kinetin).
