A rod (37) is positively guided in the rear side of a rail fixed to the window frame, and has a selector pin passing through a slot in the rail. A rear foot on the rail supports it on the bottom of a stepped groove in the frame. Screws passing through the rail and foot secure it to the window-frame. A rib on the underside of the foot (70) engages in a slot in a sliding hinge (93). The latter is detachably secured, typically by a pin fitting in a hole (91,92), to the rod so as to move with it, and is also joined, via an adjustable setting member (94) to a further connecting fitting (95). The hinge can be rigid under tension and compression loads while bending elastically in the transverse direction, being typically of spring-steel strip.
