Transdermal patches for admin of oestradiol (I) comprise a backing layer, an adhesive-contg. reservoir layer in which (I) is at least partially soluble, and a release liner. The reservoir layer is a polymer matrix contg. an isopropylidene mono- or diglycerol of formula (II) as penetration enhancer. In (II), R = CH2OH or CH2OCH2CH(OH)CH2OH. USE - (I) is used to relieve symptoms of menopause, oophorectomy,and primary hypophysial failure, as well as osteoporosis and atherosclerosis associated with oestradiol deficiency. Inclusion of(II) improves bioavailability, allowing lower doses to be used.
