The development and adoption worldwide of the transversal arrangement of combustion engines for automotive and light motor vehicles was the result of the advantages of this solution which, nevertheless, has serious disadvantages in the engine compartment because of the excessive space requirements. This is because the engine, arranged transversally in the vehicle, is joined to the clutch mechanism and the clutch to the gearbox. The arrangement of the assembly occupies much of the engine compartment, complicating the axle shaft connections with the wheels, controls, serves, etc. as shown by Fig. 3 and Fig. 4 on page 10. The new solution proposed is rational, simple and compact and, as suggested in the title, envisages a different position for the gearbox, located in a position underneath the clutch and, partly, the engine, Fig. 2. An intermediate idle gear connects the engine to the main shaft of the gearbox. The reduction in dimensions permits simplified installation of the engine accessories and controls, and considerable technical, practical and economic advantages as indicated in the attached description.
