This invention relates to a vascular prosthesis for the replacement or internal lining of medium- and large- diameter blood vessels and a device for its application without interruption of the blood flow. The vascular prosthesis comprises a tubular body of biocompatible material which encloses a first body of annular extent which is placed substantially coaxially with the tubular body close to one longitudinal end. The first annular body can be expanded regularly prior to insertion of the prosthesis within a blood vessel by a device which does not interrupt the blood flow along the vessel in order to engage the length of the tubular body which incorporates the first annular body against the inner wall of the blood vessel upstream of the length thereof which has to be replaced or lined internally with the prosthesis. This first annular body is provided with stop means which act against a radial contraction therein in such a way as to maintain the progressive radial expansion produced by the device for its application which brings about adhesion between the prosthesis and the blood vessel.
