Large umbrella, especially a beach umbrella of the type comprising a plurality of bars which can open radially and supporting a fabric fixed to the same, characterized in that the said bars are hinged to a traveller which is guided on a tube comprising the shaft of the umbrella and which can move from a raised position where it is in contact with a stop on the said tube in which the bars are radially open, and a lower position in which the bars are collected within the tube, there being guided within the said traveller a body having one end which is operatively connected to the said bars and can move between two positions with respect to the said cursor, the said body being connected to operating means capable of moving the said cursor between the said raised position in the said body holding the said bars forced outwards in an open radial position and the said lowered position in which the said bars are collected within the said tube.
