A paintbrush, shaving brush, small brush, larger brush or the like has a replaceable brush insert 1, which can be attached and detached by means of a handle part 2 and can be inserted in the head part 3 in a receiving opening 6 in a carrying body 4, it being possible for the brush insert 1 to be released easily, by means of a handle part 2, from a retaining device 15 and replaced. The section 12 of the brush insert 1 which protrudes out of the carrying body 4 of the head part 3 has a guide opening 13 for a guide part 14 of a retaining device 15, two opposite rolling bodies 16 being constructed on both sides of the centrally arranged guide part 14 in the manner such that they can move on axle rods 17. A retaining part 8 can preferably furthermore be latched into a circumferential latching groove 10 in the receiving opening 6 in a carrying body 4 by its latching strips 9, an edge flange 11 bearing in a sealing manner against the end face 5 of a carrying body 4.
