Detecting an antibody (AB) in a sample comprises (i) incubation of the sample with a particle-like carrier including immobilised antigen specific for the AB to be detected and a conjugate of at least one protein reactive with the AB's Fc-fragment and an indicator bound thereto for conjugate-AB-complex formation, (ii) binding of these complexes to a carrier, (iii) sepn. of the carrier from unbound material, (iv) detection of the antibody. Also claimed is a process for antigen detection comprising (a) incubating the sample in a mixt. contg. a particle-like carrier with immobilised Fab or F(ab)2-fragments of the antigen-specific monoclonal AB and a conjugate of a protein reactive with the AB Fc-fragment, an antigen-specific monoclonal AB and an indicator bound thereto, (b) formation of aggregates of particle-like carriers, the antigen to be detected and conjugate-AB-complexes and (c) detection of antigen-contg. aggregates. The carriers pref. are latex particles, pref. polystyrene, and the indicators are gold, dyes, FITC or coloured synthetic particles.
