A method for detecting the presence of a targetpolynucleotide or for preventing the transcription ortranslation of a target polynucleotide is disclosed.The method involves hybridizing a polynucleotidecompound to the target polynucleotide. The targetpolynucleotide can be in single-stranded or indouble-stranded form. The polynucleotide compoundcomprises a polynucleotide and at least two entitiesattached to the polynucleotide.
