Process for Manipulating Data Models Used in Software Engineering

The manipulation method involves using bridges that convert the format of one tool to the format of another tool via a unique neutral intermediate format. This allows transfer of data models between a variety of tools and for transformation of the models. The bridges operate in an object oriented language and transform the model of the data in several stages that are successively activated in a systematic or conditional manner. The implementation language describes a dynamic linking of the stages using a parameterised procedure. Each step is an executable with its code developed from a set of reusable classes, and activation of a procedure requiring only supply of the name and parameters of the corresponding procedure.
