A peptide contains the amino acid sequence shown in SEQ ID No:1, orconservative amino acid substitutions thereof. The amino acids at positions 1,2, 4, 17, 19 and 20 of SEQ ID No:1, asparagine, glutamine, arginine,threonine, glycine and glycine, respectively, are highly conserved. Thepeptide is capable of promoting pairing of a single-stranded DNA molecule anda double-stranded DNA molecule. The single-stranded DNA molecule is homologousto at least a portion of the double-stranded DNA molecule. The single-strandedDNA molecule and the double-stranded DNA moleculeform a three-stranded DNAmolecule.
