The invention is a treatment for cardiovascular indications involving delivering a polynucleotide therapeutic to the pericardial space for expression therein. Additionally cells can be removed from the pericardial space, transfected with a polynucleotide, and replaced to the pericardial space for expression of the polynucleotide therein. Additionally a drug can be delivered to the pericardial space in combination with the administration of the polynucleotide for increasing the efficacy of treatment of the cardiovascular condition.
