REJUVENATING THE SKIN USING A COMBINATION OF VITAMIN A AND ALPHAHYDROXY ACIDS

Methods of accelerating skin rejuvenation and methods of skin care treatment are disclosed using a combination of vitamin A and alphahydroxy acids, such as the combination of vitamin A propionate and glycolic acid. The combination can be prepared in an alcohol-based carrier having concentrations ranging from approximately 0.01 % to 10 % vitamin A propionate, preferably 0.1 % to 4 %, and 0.1 % to 30 % glycolic acid, preferably 2 % to 10 % glycolic acid. In addition to alcohol, the carrier may also include propylene glycol, preservatives, thickeners and non-ionic surfactants. The formulation is applied topically to the skin at a frequency which will produce a fine desquamation. The formulation may also be used to accelerate the penetration of other therapeutic agents into the skin.
