The invention disclosure relates to novel archaesomes, and the use of archaesomes, for the enhanced delivery of pharmaceutical and other compounds to specific cell types and tissues in animals and other life-forms. The efficacy of the archaeosomes and of conventional liposomes can be further enhanced by incorporation of coenzyme Q10 and/or polyethylene glycol into the respective vesicles. Other coenzymes or vitamins, such as vitamin E, which have immunostimulatory properties may be included, or substituted for, CoQ10. This invention also relates to the use of these vesicles in vaccine formulations, as adjuvants and/or delivery vehicles, for enhancing the immune response to immunogens in animals such as a human.
