The loading mechanism includes an U-shaped lever (4) which recognises the size of a loaded cassette. The loading frame (3) of a video recorder is sized to receive a standard VHS cassette. When loading a smaller C-cassette (2) is loaded in the video recorder, the tape winding is changed according to the size of the cassette. The U shaped lever is moved by the compact cassette and an internal mechanism is actuated to adjust the tape spool drive.
