A method of manufacturing a cathode ray tube (21) having a dark coating (37) exhibiting anti-glare and antistatic characteristics on an outer surface (39) of a face plate channel (27) The process according to the invention comprises the steps of: (a) forming a homogeneous initial carbon dispersion containing approximately equal parts by weight of carbon particles and an organic vehicle; (b) mixing a sufficient amount of said homogeneous initial carbon dispersion with an aqueous solution of lithium polysilicate to form a final dispersion suitable for application to a faceplate panel of a CRT.
