FIELD: claciology, examination of glaciers. SUBSTANCE: in agreement with method marker is established in certain point of glacier. Radio transmitter is used in the capacity of marker. Time of its establishment is recording and speed of travel of glacier is found by speed of travel of marker over specified distance during time interval between establishment of marker and time of termination of measurement. Mode of switching on of radio transmitter is set in advance by difference of atmospheric pressure corresponding to specified distance of travel of radio transmitter so that radio transmitter switches on when it comes to point of final atmospheric pressure (of bigger value). Radio transmitter for realization of method has pressure transducer 13 of membrane type, power supply source 4 fitted with electrodes 30, envelope with mobile wall 6 which houses electrolyte separated from electrodes 30 of power supply source 5 by valve 7 which can open towards electrodes 30. Envelope with mobile wall is placed into sealed cavity 8 containing ampule 11 with compressed gas. With coming to certain point determined by pressure around pressure transducer of membrane type to which it is adjusted, hook 12 of pressure transducer breaks away tail 10 of ampule 11 and released gas presses against elastic envelope with mobile wall 6 in sealed cavity 8, electrolyte is forced into space of power supply source and after this energized radio transmitter starts to send call signs over radio waves. Air forced out by electrolyte from space of power supply source is released through long capillaries arranged at its corners passable for air but unpassable for electrolyte due to its greater viscosity.
