FIELD: catalysts in petroleum processing. SUBSTANCE: catalyst is prepared by way of successively impregnating carrier (alumina) granules with active component aqueous solutions of active components. Preparation is distinguished with that, in order to increase catalytic activity, molybdenum anions are first applied from solution containing potassium or lithium hydroxide and ammonium paramolybdate with pH 5.8-7.0 on alumina carrier kept at pH 6-7 and being preliminarily extruded as pellets with their cross-section in the form of five- or six-pointed stars.
