A unit with liquid-cooled rectifier valves (4) and electrical or electronic components (5 to 7) is divided into separate compartments for different functions. One compartment is for the components and the valves. A second one is for the heat exchanger(8) which cools the heated liquid returning from the valves. The dividing wall between the two compartments has a hollow cross-section with cooling fins directed towards the second compartment. These create an intermediary channel effecting a cooling of the internally-circulated air. External air flows through this channel as well as through the heat exchanger. The first compartment also contains an assembly for collecting and distributing the coolant.
