Weathered dam wall repair - by wall hole drilling to take heavy-load anchors and protective plate support anchors all concreted into place after plate welding in-situ
Weathered dam wall repair - by wall hole drilling to take heavy-load anchors and protective plate support anchors all concreted into place after plate welding in-situ
A pattern of holes (12) is drilled into weathered concrete of the pre-treated exterior (6) of the dam (13) so that heavy-load anchors acting as connectors (14) placed in the holes can mount the reinforcement (15). Protective concrete plates (5) are secured at pre-set distance from the dam surface (6) so the interval between them can be poured with concrete to anchor the reinforcement in place. Dam exterior pre-treatment is by sandblasting followed by sealing and each anchor (14) has it own supporting anchor (20) held in the hole (12) by means of a heavy-load dowel (21). The reinforcement is preferably welded to the anchors (14) and perforated rails (25) are used to secure the support anchors (27) for the protective plates (5) as welded to them (27). A plate anchor is screwed onto the free threaded end of the support anchor concerned, the plates (5) being pre-welded to the plate anchors, leaving the plate anchor parts proud of the plates to be cut off after the welding operation.
