Mfr. of connected lengths of polystyrene insulating slabs (10-12) comprises continuously passing slabs and carrier material over support rollers (2, 4) and between pressure rollers (5, 6). The carrier is a sheet of glass fibre fleece. A heater (3) between support rollers radiates through the fleece, onto the outer polystyrene skin, as the assembly moves uniformly on. The glass fibre fleece used has a wt. of 120 g/m2 and is applied to one or both sides of the slabs. Also claimed is a plant to make the slabs, generally as described, using a gas fired heater (17), with independent temp. sensors (18, 19). An additional pressure roller (16) may be included opposite the heater. Also claimed are the lengths of insulating slabs produced by the plant.
