Frequency doubling of electrical signals in MHz- and GHz- range

The method involves an optical semiconducting amplifier (OHV) which is connected between an electrooptical converter (LD) and an electrooptical converter (PD). The geometry of the optical vol. and the operating point of the optical semiconducting amplifier are selected so that the frequency at which it is periodically driven into saturation by the input signal is double that of the input signal.
