In a process and assembly for the esp. religious ritual slaughter of esp.cattle, the novelty is that: (a) the assembly incorporates a chamber (12) in which the animal is held; and (b) an inlet hatch (14) which can be locked behind the animal; (c) the front end of the chamber (12) has an aperture (18) for the animal's head; (d) adjustable assembles (20, 22, 24) hold the animal secure within the chamber (12); (e) a ram (21) advances a shield (20) behind the animal, whose head then emerges through the aperture (18). During slaughter, the weight is removed from the animal's feet by a lifting assembly (24), while the neck zone is secured by an L-shaped swivel clamp (22).
