Control of drive unit of hybrid vehicle with IC engine and motor-generator set with recuperative braking system

The drive system for a car using an IC engine has a motor-generator set coupled to the gearbox output shaft for conversion of braking energy at the wheels back into electrical energy. There is a battery to store this recovered energy. There is a sensor to determine the operational state of the car and a control unit for the operation of the gearbox and motor-generator according to the sensor signal. The unit permits the motor-generator to generate when car braking is detected and switches the gearbox into a gear between the existing one and another with a higher gear ratio so that the recoverable braking energy is maximised.
