Control of motor vehicle IC engine idling speed as function of steering angle for power-assisted steering - using sensor to detect engine idling and another to detect large steering angles, in which case, idling speed is raised
The method of adjusting the idling speed of the IC engine according to the steering angle, involves using a sensor to recognise idling operation and a further sensor to recognise the activation of the servo-assisted steering. The engine is operated at a first idling speed when there is no steering being undertaken, or at least up a threshold steering angle. However the idling speed is raised to a second value when a steering angle of larger than the threshold is detected. This second speed is maintained no matter how the steering angle changes above the threshold.
