PURPOSE:To improve the quality of a marking letter by applying pressure to a pen with an air cylinder through a pressure bar and a holder receiver when marking is performed, drawing up the pressure bar with an air cylinder and further drawing up the holder receiver by another cylinder through a return bar when marking has been finished. CONSTITUTION:A metallic or plastic work 10 is marked by a pen 1 of an engraving machine. When marking is performed, a fixed air pressure is applied toward such a direction that the pressure bar 3 presses the holder receiver 11B from the air cylinder 8B to the pressure bar 3 and pressure is applied from the holder receiver 11B to the pen 1. When marking has been finished, the pressure bar 3 and the holder receiver 11B are drawn up by the pressure of the air cylinder 8B in such a direction that the pressure bar 3 separates from the pen 1. The return bar 13 and the holder receiver 11B are drawn up another air cylinder 8A. By this method, the quality of the marked letter can be improved.
