The device i.e. pneumatic cylinder device (1), has a cylinder (20) arranged with a clamping piston (2) that divides the cylinder into two chambers (9, 10). A piston rod (3) is firmly connected with the clamping piston. A lock mechanism (8) is arranged at the clamping piston for locking the clamping piston in a pressure-free condition of the chambers. The lock mechanism includes unlocking pistons (4, 5) that are arranged at two sides of the clamping piston aligned to the respective chambers. The lock mechanism is unlocked by the unlocking pistons. An independent claim is also included for a method for locking a clamping piston of a double-acting fluid cylinder device with two chambers.
