The master cylinder has a sensor system including a sensor (6) that is integrated in housing (1), and cooperating with a magnet. A piston (2) is secured to the magnet for position determination of the piston. The magnet is a ferrite magnet (7) which is connected with the piston in direction of a pressure chamber (4) facing a side of the piston. The ferrite magnet is connected to the piston by a fastener (8) and a material-locking connection. The ferrite magnet is subjected to an axial biasing force. The material connection is an adhesive connection, and the sensor is a hall sensor.
