At least one vehicle wheel (2) is supported by a vertically movable strut of a hydraulic cylinder (4) and is stimulated to vibrate exclusively vertically a known vibration. The resulting vibration of the vehicle is measured and evaluated at at least one point, pref. at the driver's position. All systems in the vehicle which are liable to vibrate are stimulated to vibrate with rigid phase coupling by a step stimulation of the vehicle wheel or wheels. The measurements for each position are frequency analysed using Fast Fourier Transformation in the frequency range from 0 to 50 Hz and the response spectrum recorded. ADVANTAGE - Enables vehicles to be optimised wrt. vibration characteristics rapidly.
