Prefabricated, conical root posts made of zirconium dioxide to build up artificial crown stumps and to stabilize fractured, vital teeth

A pre-fabricated, conical root plug for building artificial crown stumps, for strengthening crowns or stabilising broken teeth consists of densely sintered zirconium dioxide. The plug has a structured surface, and consists mainly of zirconium dioxide with addn. of yttrium and/or magnesium dioxide. It is made by mechanical, esp. machine, working of unsintered zirconium oxide blanks, followed by release and sintering. Opt., it is made by injection casting a zirconium dioxide powder contg. a binder, pref. a polyoxymethylene, into a mould, followed by release and sintering.
