A protective device is disclosed for shielding people from high-frequency electromagnetic fields and/or to provide camouflage against heat-imaging systems. The proposed device is designed as a suit which surrounds an individual and is made from a carrier material which is provided with shielding fibres or yarns or additional shielding components. The base material used to make the carrier material, or the carrier material itself, contains upolyamide fibres or polyamide yarns/u (1) which are given an all-over usilver coating layer/u (2). A upolymer layer/u (3) is applied to the silver coating layer on the outside and useals/u the silver-metallized fibres or yarns.
