A fuel filter assembly (10) incorporates a modular drain bowl (16) which may be removably mounted at the lower end of the disposable filter cartridge (14). An anchor insert (100) is disposed interiorly at the lower portion of the cartridge sump (62) for anchoring a fastener (120) to attach the drain bowl (16).
