The armouring layer of an electric cable is realised with electrically conducting wires that are wound by a circular winding machine with a multi-spindle head supplied with wire from stationary bobbins. The wire used may be multi-strand formed from a textile coated with conductive material. The head moves angularly and alternates as it winds the wires over the conductors, which are arranged in a circle. The winding movement is across chords of the circle in which the conductors lie, with the armouring wire wrapping part way round conductors at opposite ends of the chord. ADVANTAGE - Supple armouring that increases flexibility of cable and can be mfd. significantly more quickly.
