A Zr alloy sheet is made by melting the ingredients under vacuum and forming an ingot, which is then forged above 700 deg C and rolled at 930-970 deg C, heated on the beta phase (1000-1040 deg C) and quenched to temper, heated to 500-700 deg C and rolled again, heated in the alpha phase (520-670 deg C) for 1-3 hrs. or 650-750 deg C for 1-10 mins., and finally cold-rolled at least twice with heating to 650-750 deg C for 1-10 mins. between rollings. The hot-rolling which follows the tempering is performed first in one direction, producing 30-40% deformation, then in a direction perpendicular thereto, producing another 30-70% deformation. The alloy comprises 0.1-0.4% Fe, 0.5-2% Sn, 0-0.1% Ni, 0.05-0.2% Cr with possible addition of Nb or Vd and the remainder Zr plus impurities. The final sheet is 0.8-3.5 mm. thick.
