The handles (1) are mounted on either side of the door (2). There are fixing points at the ends (3) of the handles. An insert (7) is placed in one of the openings in the end (5). A threaded rod (11) rotates freely inside the insert and extends beyond the end of the handle. The rod passes through the door and fits into the tapped end (22) of the other handle. The rod has a nut (15) close to the insert and when the handle is rotated it engages in a ring (25) which allows the rod to be rotated easily with the fingers so that it quickly screws into the end of the other handle. The rod is then locked in position by tightening the ring using a key (35).
