The door handle has at predetermined intervals sockets (2) for an external handle fixing bolt. At least one of the sockets has a distance adjusting device (5). The socket can contain a rotationally movable body forming part of the adjusting mechanism whereby the rotational axis of the body is off-set parallel to the longitudinal axis (7) of the associated fixing bolt (4). The body can be formed as a bush (9) inserted in the associated socket. The bush can be made of metal or plastics.
