The coin separation and collection unit has an inlet funnel (3) with a fan creating suction inside. One or more conveyor lines (4) deliver the coins (2), which fall into the funnel. The coins fall to the bottom of the funnel and are carried away by a wheel (19) which has pockets (15) distributed round the periphery. The coins fall from the pockets when the wheel has rotated through half a revolution. The dust is removed from the coins by a barrier (6) placed opposite the incoming conveyor line. The barrier is formed of an elastic material that also slows the coin, causing it to bounce and fall to the bottom of the funnel. The suction inlet (7) is perpendicular to the path of the incoming coin, and is immediately above the barrier.
