The water treatment device consists of a cartridge (8) in the filling neck (7) of the electrically-heated water container (1), and comprises a cage (9) having a perforated base (10) and top (11) and contg. one or more blocks (12) of a soluble scale-inhibiting material. The base (10) of the cage (9) is situated above the max. level of the water in the container, and the blocks of inhibitor are immobilised (15) inside the cage between (10) and (11).
