PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject copolymer fiber having bulky and soft feeling, exhibiting excellent bathochromicity and useful for clothes, etc., by crosslinking an ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer having a prescribed ethylene content in such a manner as to satisfy respectively specific refractive index change and specific gravity change. ;SOLUTION: This fiber is composed of a crosslinked ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer having an ethylene content of 25-70mol%. The fiber satisfies the refractive index change of the formula I (n0 is refractive index in fiber axis direction before crosslinking; nk is refractive index in fiber axis direction after crosslinking) and the specific gravity change of the formula II (ρ0 is specific gravity of the fiber before crosslinking; ρk is specific gravity of the fiber after crosslinking). Preferably, a conjugate fiber containing the copolymer forming a part of the fiber surface is produced from the copolymer and other thermoplastic polymers.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1998,JPO
