WIDE-FLANGE SHAPE STEEL EXCELLENT IN EARTHQUAKE RESISTANCE AND ITS MANUFACTURE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wide-flange shape steel excellent in plastic deformation ability to hardly cause local buckling in ultimately great deformation during a large earth quake, even if a web is thinner, by specifying the mechanical property (rigidity after yielding) of the web and a flange. ;SOLUTION: For a wide-flange shape steel with a web 4 and a flange 5, the gradient of nominal stress/distortion is 5% or more of the gradient of elasticity in any distortion amount up to a distortion amount of 5% after the yielding of the web 4 and the stress increasing rate of the flange 5 is 1.25 or more. Even if the yielding point of the web 4 is equal to that of the flange 5, the wide-flange shape steel with high rigidity after yielding has plastic deformation ability, almost equal to case that the yielding point of the web 4 is higher than that of the flange 5. Even if the yielding point is lower than that of the flange 5, it has deformation ability, almost equal to the case that the yielding point of the web 4 is higher than that of the flange 5. The wide-flange shape steel whose portions have the mechanical property in such limited ranges to hardly cause local buckling in ultimately great deformation during a large earthquake provides excellent earthquake resistance as the column and beam members of various buildings.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1998,JPO
